What Touched by Nature is

Touched by Nature makes organic cotton basics for babies and small children. Not a season of outfits, not a boutique line: bodysuits, sleepers, gowns, sleep sacks, swaddles, pants, socks, bibs, crib sheets and towels, in sizes that start at preemie and stop at 5T. We have been making that same short list since 2012, which is 14 years of the same argument, that the clothes nobody photographs are the ones you handle forty times a week.

Who it is for

Anyone dressing a person who cannot dress themselves and cannot tell you what is wrong. That is a narrower job than it sounds. You need a neck that comes off downward when something has gone badly at the other end. You need a fastening you can find without the light on. You need enough of everything that a failed wash cycle is not a crisis, which is why the range is sold in packs rather than singles.

It is also for the second baby. The size chart does not move between shelves or between years, so a box of 3-6 Months from a first child still means something when the next one reaches it.

What organic cotton is doing here

Two things, and only two. Skin that is three weeks old reacts to more than adult skin does, and a fiber grown and finished without the usual chemistry is simply a softer thing to put against it. And a fabric that stays soft through forty washes is a fabric you are still using when the size runs out, rather than one you replaced in month two because it went stiff.

What it is not doing is making a health claim. Organic cotton does not treat eczema, prevent anything, or make a baby sleep. Where a page here touches something with public guidance behind it, what belongs in a crib, what the sleepwear rules require, that guidance is named and dated rather than paraphrased into a promise.

How the range is built

Everything sits on eight shelves, and the split is by what the piece is for rather than by age or gender. Bodysuits and layette sets. Sleep and play: zip sleepers, gowns, two-piece pajamas. Sleep sacks. Blankets and swaddles. Pants, leggings and shorts. Dresses, tops and hoodies. Socks, bibs and hats. Nursery and bath: crib sheets, changing pad covers, hooded towels, burp cloths.

Prints repeat deliberately across those shelves. The fox that turns up on a gown turns up on a swaddle and a bib, so a gift can be assembled from three shelves and still look like one decision.

One fact, and it is the year at the top of this page. Everything else on this site is about the clothes: the size run, the pack count, the fabric, the price at the time of our last update. Where a line needs an outside authority, the authority is named and dated rather than turned into a slogan.
