01Where to start

Three ways into the Touched by Nature range

One size chart runs through all three, so what you buy for a newborn in October still makes sense against what you buy in March. Each route lands on a shelf of the Touched by Nature collection.

04The fabric

What organic cotton looks like before it is a vest

Forty seconds, no voice-over: the fiber, the knit and the finished piece, so you can see what you are putting against skin that is three weeks old.

We keep the same fiber through every shelf here, which is why a bodysuit, a sheet and a hooded towel bought together feel like one set rather than three. It is the plainest thing about Touched by Nature standards.

05Why it is cut this way

Four decisions you will notice at two in the morning

You will meet all four in the first two weeks, usually in the dark, usually holding a baby in one arm. They are the four decisions the people at Touched by Nature took before anything else.

The shoulder comes off downward

An envelope neck stretches sideways and rolls down the body, so a bodysuit that failed at the diaper end never passes a face. You will find the same neck on the tees and the sleepers.

The zip runs the whole leg

A full-length zip opens a sleeper from the throat to the ankle in one motion. You are not counting poppers in the dark, and the baby stays mostly covered while you work.

The sack replaces the blanket

A wearable blanket keeps a baby warm with nothing to pull over a head. The pediatric guidance prefers it to loose bedding for that reason, and the sizes here are cut so a sack cannot ride up.

The prints repeat

A print that appears on a sleeper also appears on a swaddle, a sheet and a hat. Replacing one piece does not mean replacing a set, and a gift for a second baby still matches the first.

06Before you order

How to pick the size without a tape measure

Age on the label is a shorthand. These five checks are what actually decides whether a piece fits the baby in front of you.

  1. Weigh first, then read the ageNewborn is for a baby under about eight pounds. Most babies leave it in two or three weeks, and 0-3 Months carries the rest of the first season.
  2. Measure length, not widthBabies outgrow a bodysuit in the torso long before the sleeves get short. If yours is long rather than heavy, take the next size up and roll the cuffs.
  3. Do not size up a sleep sackA sack with room to grow into can ride up over a face. Buy the band that fits now and move on when the length runs out.
  4. Count a cloth diaper as a sizePull-on pants clear a cloth diaper at the usual size for most babies. If yours is between bands, the larger one is the safer buy.
  5. Wash before you judge the fitCotton gives up a little length in the first hot wash. Run the pack through once before you decide the sleeves were wrong.

07Straight to a line

Touched by Nature by the thing you actually need

Each of these is a page of its own, with the size run, the price range and every print we make it in. Together they cover most of what Touched by Nature standards puts on a shelf.

Touched by Nature Bodysuits

The layer that goes on first and gets changed most. Envelope shoulders mean the shirt comes off downward rather than past a face, and the packs run in threes and fives because a newborn does not get through one a day.

Touched by Nature Sleep and Play

A sleeper that opens from the throat to one ankle turns a night change into one motion. Sizes start at preemie, the feet are covered, and the zip has a chin guard at the top.

Touched by Nature Sleep Sacks

A wearable blanket warms a baby with nothing loose to pull over a face, which is exactly why pediatric guidance prefers it to a blanket. Sleeveless and long-sleeve, 0-3 months up to 18-24.

Touched by Nature Swaddle Blankets

Forty inches square is the size that actually wraps, small squares come loose by the third night. Packs of two and three, some with a matching cap, and the print turns up again on the sheets and bibs.

Touched by Nature Dresses

08The company

Who Touched by Nature is

We have made organic cotton basics for babies since 2012, which is 14 years of the same short list: things that go on easily, wash often and hand down. The longer version, including what we refuse to claim, is on the about page.

One fiber, eight shelves

Organic cotton runs through everything we make, from a preemie gown to a hooded towel, so the wardrobe you build over a first year came from one place and behaves the same in the wash.

Sized preemie to 5T

A single size chart covers the whole range. You learn it once, and it still works when a second baby arrives and you are buying against hand-me-downs.

Sold in packs

Threes, fours and fives rather than singles, because a newborn does not go through one bodysuit a day and a shop that sells you one is not thinking about your laundry.

Prints that carry across

A print that appears on a sleeper also appears on a swaddle, a bib and a sheet, which is what makes a gift look considered rather than assembled at the till.

09Asked first

Questions people send us before they order

Sizing, washing, what belongs in a crib, and where to buy. If yours is not here, the mailbox is at the foot of the page.

Where can you buy Touched by Nature clothes?

Every card on this site carries a buying button, and every page has one at the bottom. The button opens the current price with our retail partner in a new tab. Payment, delivery and returns happen there rather than here.

If you already know the size, the button in the header opens the whole range at once. If you do not, the eight shelves narrow it down by what the piece is for: sleeping, changing, going out.

What size Touched by Nature should you order for a newborn?

Start at Newborn only if the baby is under about eight pounds. Most babies spend two or three weeks in it and then live in 0-3 Months for the rest of the first season. Preemie exists as its own size in the layette sets and the gowns.

Everything here shares one size chart, which is the part that saves you money: a 3-6 Months bodysuit, sack and pair of pants bought in the same week fit the same baby.

Can you machine wash Touched by Nature organic cotton at home?

Warm wash, tumble dry low. The rule that matters across every shelf is heat: a hot dryer is what shrinks a sleeper out of its size range before the baby has grown out of it, and what turns a soft sack stiff.

Wash new pieces before the first wear. Cotton gives up a little size in the first cycle, and you want that to happen before you decide whether the sleeve length was right.

Are Touched by Nature sleep sacks safe to use in a crib?

A wearable blanket is clothing, not a safety device, and the national guidance is blunt about the rest of the crib: firm flat surface, fitted sheet, nothing else in there. What a sack does is keep a baby warm without anything loose to pull over a face, which is why pediatric guidance prefers sleep clothing to blankets.

Two conditions come with it. Get the size right so it cannot ride up over the head, and stop using anything that holds the arms and chest, meaning a swaddle rather than a sack, on the day a baby shows signs of rolling.

How do you know Touched by Nature cotton is organic?

The pieces on these shelves are made from organic cotton, and where a garment mixes it with something else, such as a little spandex in a sock cuff or polyester in a sock heel, the fabric line on the card says so.

The label sewn into the garment is the document on this, and it travels with the piece. Ours is the fabric figure printed on the card beside the size run.

How many pieces do you get in a Touched by Nature pack?

Most of the range is sold in threes, fours and fives rather than singly: five bodysuits, four pairs of pants, three gowns, three swaddles. The count sits on every card and in the size table on the page for the piece.

That is deliberate and it is about laundry. One bodysuit is a spare. Five is a week, which is roughly what a newborn gets through between washes.

Every size, every print

Whatever you are dressing today, whether it is a preemie who came early, a six-month-old who has outgrown three wardrobes or a toddler who now picks her own pants, the size and the print sit behind this button, inside the Touched by Nature range.

Payment, delivery and returns happen with our retail partner.
